Most of the time, election years are the only opportunity for voters to weigh in on who represents them. However, there are occasions when a vacancy occurs in a legislative district between election years. When that happens, the responsibility of finding a replacement falls primarily on precinct committee persons (PCPs).
Over the last year, an unusual number of vacancies opened in the Oregon Legislature, including openings created by several pro-life legislators’ resignations. The good news is that, thus far, pro-life PCPs have ensured these seats have been filled by new pro-life legislators!
Following are the newly appointed pro-life legislators at the time of writing:
Senator Cliff Bentz Senate District 30
Sen. Bentz previously served in the State House, which means that his old seat is now in the process of being filled. Bentz has a great pro-life record from his years of service in the legislature representing Southeast Oregon.
Representative Rick Lewis House District 18
Rep. Lewis replaced a pro-life hero, Vic Gilliam, who resigned from his Silverton seat in January 2017 due to his battle with ALS.
Representative Denyc Boles House District 19
Ms. Boles was just selected to succeed Jodi Hack (Salem), but had not been sworn in at the time of writing. Before this appointment, Boles served faithfully on Oregon Right to Life’s PAC Board for years.
Representative Daniel Bonham House District 59
Rep. Bonham, of The Dalles, was picked for this seat in November to replace John Huffman, who was appointed by President Trump to serve in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Representative Jeff Helfrich House District 52
Rep. Helfrich, an Air Force Gulf War veteran and former east Multnomah County patrol deputy from Hood River, was appointed to his seat in November.
Is there any pro life Democrat legislators in the Oregon legislator (house and the senate).
Are all the representatives and senators that are Republican pro life?
