(Oregon Right to Life) — An extensive project to expand a pro-life pregnancy resource center in Salem received a boost last month after the Marion County Commissioners approved a nearly $750,000 grant for the clinic in a unanimous vote.
The Marion County Commissioners voted in favor of the almost $750,000 grant to Hope Pregnancy Clinic on December 11, helping the center make progress toward funding the expansion of its 2630 Market St. N.E. location, according to The Salem Reporter. The motion was presented by County Commissioner and former Oregon Right to Life political director Colm Willis, who expressed a desire to help the clinic serve the increasing number of women who seek out their services.
The clinic welcomes about 900 women per year, helping them understand the reality of abortion and providing them with life-affirming alternatives.
“They (Hope Pregnancy Clinic) are a free medical clinic for pregnant moms in our community, and most of the people they serve are in pretty precarious situations,” Willis said, according to the report. “They do really good work for moms who may not have a stable housing environment, may not have stable relationships in their lives…who may have some struggles with substance abuse.”
Hope Pregnancy Clinic provides free ultrasounds and other resources for women experiencing unsupported pregnancies, empowering them to choose life. The clinic does not perform or refer for abortions and instead provides scientifically accurate information about abortion to women considering it.
“If they ask us why, our truthful answer is that we don’t think abortion is good for women,” Hope Pregnancy Clinic Executive Director Mike Reid told the Salem Reporter. “We will ask them then if they want more information about the type of abortion that they would get, depending on how far along they are, and if they are interested in understanding about the risks. If they want us to give them information and say, ‘Yes, I’m interested,’ then we will tell them, and if they say they are not interested, then we move on.”
The clinic plans to begin construction on their expansion project in June, the report stated. They intend to complete the expansion in July 2026. The estimated total cost is $4.4 million, of which the pro-life organization raised about $2.8 million prior to the Marion County grant. Hope Pregnancy Clinic has also applied for a $800,000 grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust to help fund the project.
Pro-life pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) provide vital resources to assist mothers and families during and after pregnancy. PRCs currently outnumber Planned Parenthood abortion facilities nationwide, ensuring that women have access to the information, education, and resources they need.
