Elections Don’t Change Everything

Oregon Right to Life

By Melody Durrett, Oregon Right to Life Board of Directors President.

Wow! A historic election is now behind us. While we gained some victories and faced some surprising losses in Oregon, we know the strength of our movement is with our supporters who don’t back down, no matter how much the deck might seem stacked against us.

This election cycle, we have heard more lies and twisting of the truth around abortion than ever. Compassionate people across America have repeatedly seen news stories of women dying from lack of miscarriage care, and the assertion that these deaths are the direct result of abortion bans. The problem is these stories are flat-out false. No state’s abortion laws make treating miscarriage illegal. This is an attempt by the abortion lobby to obfuscate the issue and rebrand abortion as medically necessary.

Abortion is not medically necessary; it’s an elective procedure intended to end the life of an innocent human being.

The misinformation campaign we faced this election cycle reminds us of the importance of speaking the truth and continuing to advocate for the unborn here in Oregon.

Post-Dobbs, the fate of abortion in Oregon rests solely with us. Now is not the time to check out, but to dig in.

All the power of our action, and the consequences of our apathy too, are firmly in the hands of everyday Oregonians. Oregon Right to Life (ORTL) is lobbying our state’s political leaders on your behalf, and we thank you for your support as we plan to face some of Oregon’s most extreme attacks on the most vulnerable in the next two years. The stark reality is that ORTL is one of the only advocacy groups in Oregon with a real influence, boldly standing up for your values of protecting life.

Please continue to support Oregon Right to Life by donating, volunteering, getting involved in your local right to life chapter and speaking up for and advocating for the unborn, moms and families in Oregon.
