(Oregon Right to Life) — Planned Parenthood CEOs are making roughly triple the annual income of other nonprofit leaders, according to a new report released Thursday by the American Life League. Pro-life advocates are actively encouraging the Trump administration to slash funding to the abortion giant amid other large-scale government budget cuts.
“Between 2020 and 2023,” Planned Parenthood’s average CEO earnings went from $317,564 to $352,661,” with CEOs seeing an 11% increase in overall compensation from 2020 to 2023,” the American Life League (ALL) document states, as first reported by The Daily Wire. “In the US, the average salary for a nonprofit CEO is roughly $117,000 a year. Planned Parenthood more than triples that.”
In Oregon, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette CEO Anne Udall made $310,878 annually. Former Planned Parenthood Southwestern Oregon CEO Lisa Gardner, who was in the role through December 2022, brought in $334,139, according to the report.
Planned Parenthood routinely receives hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding.
In the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the abortion franchise received $699.3 million in government funding, with federal grants and reimbursements from taxpayer dollars accounting for nearly 40% of all revenue.
“Planned Parenthood continues to grow tremendously wealthy, and taxpayers should be outraged at the nearly $700,000,000 given by our government to Planned Parenthood during this last fiscal year,” the American Life League argued in its report.

The federal Hyde Amendment prohibits the use of taxpayer money to pay for abortions. But Planned Parenthood qualifies for the grants due to offering a small number of reproductive services or products, including STI testing and contraception, which it uses to secure clientele to direct toward abortion in the event of unplanned pregnancies. In the 2021-2022 fiscal year, Planned Parenthood performed 0% of the nation’s mammograms, 0.7% of all pap tests, and 0.05% of prenatal services – while performing over 40% of the nation’s abortions. According to the organization’s annual report, Planned Parenthood facilities performed approximately 392,715 abortions in 2022-2023. Abortions make up over 95% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services nationwide.
“Regardless of who is in the Oval Office, Planned Parenthood receives increased amounts of funding from Congress every single year,” the ALL said. “Yet each year this 501(c)(3) tells the public it needs more money to fund its services. The fact is that Planned Parenthood funnels its millions into political campaigns, abortion ‘services,’ and its own CEOs.”
“As CEO salaries reach almost $1 million, the financial troubles claimed by Planned Parenthood seem hollow at best,” the ALL argued.
According to a Knights of Columbus-Marist poll released in January, 57% of respondents said they disagreed with their taxpayer dollars being used to fund abortions.
The report from the American Life League comes as pro-life advocates have increased calls to eliminate taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood while the Trump administration seeks to cut back wasteful government spending.
Trump allies, including Vice President J.D. Vance, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk, have already signaled an interest in doing so.
Following Trump’s November re-election, Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy published an op-ed declaring the purpose and intentions of DOGE, in which they noticeably mentioned Planned Parenthood.
“DOGE will help end federal overspending by taking aim at the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended,” Musk and Ramaswamy wrote, “from $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.”
Last month, a large number of pro-life groups signed on to a letter urging Trump administration Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought to stop the funding of Planned Parenthood.
And scrutiny of Planned Parenthood hasn’t been exclusively a feature of pro-life organizations. The New York Times published an article entitled “Botched Care and Tired Staff: Planned Parenthood in Crisis” on February 15. In the article, writer Katie Benner told the story of a New York woman who experienced a failed abortion at a Planned Parenthood.
The article went on to reference “scores of allegations reviewed by The Times that accuse Planned Parenthood of poor care.”
Oregon Right to Life believes in the sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Abortion ends the life of a genetically distinct, growing human being. We oppose abortion at any point of gestation. In rare cases, a mother may have a life threatening condition in which medical procedures intended to treat the condition of the mother may result in the unintended death of her preborn baby. At the same time, ORTL recognizes that modern medical practice has and will continue to increase the ability to save both the life of the mother and the baby.
