Early Christmas Gift: Idaho Planned Parenthood Clinic Closes Its Doors Permanently

(Oregon Right to Life) — One of only two remaining Planned Parenthood abortion facilities left in Idaho is closing its doors permanently this week.

Planned Parenthood’s website states that the Twin Falls Health Center, a Planned Parenthood facility in South-Central Idaho and one of only two of the abortion corporation’s facilities in the state, would offer its last opportunities for “in-person care” on December 18 and 19. The site directs potential clients to “[b]ook a virtual (telehealth) visit” instead of seeking an appointment after the closure.

The Twin Falls facility, which has been unable to perform abortions since 2022 in compliance with state law, did not publicly state a reason for its closure.

The shuttering of the Twin Falls location is separately listed on the abortion corporation’s “Closure Announcements” webpage, which cites “challenges include rising costs, low reimbursement rates, the lasting effects of Covid-19, the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, and targeted attacks on reproductive health care [sic]” as generalized reasons for clinic closures. Another Planned Parenthood location in Juneau, Alaska, is also now listed as being “permanently closed to in-person appointments.”

Pro-life pregnancy resource center Stanton Healthcare celebrated the announced closure of the facility in an email shared with supporters earlier in the week.

Calling the shuttering of the Twin Falls location “a significant milestone for the pro-life community in Idaho,” Stanton Healthcare Director of Community Outreach Atalie Snyder said it’s “more than just a local event; it is a resounding victory for those who champion life and believe in supporting women with compassionate, life-affirming care.”

“This shift highlights the growing momentum of the life-affirming movement and the increasing availability of alternatives that provide holistic support for women and families,” she said.

Snyder pointed out that Planned Parenthood’s last remaining Idaho location is in Meridian, a suburb of Boise. And Stanton Healthcare’s pro-life pregnancy resource center is located just across the street.

“Stanton’s presence across from the Meridian Planned Parenthood sends a clear and loud message: women deserve better than the controversial services provided by Planned Parenthood,” Snyder wrote in the email. “Women deserve care that prioritizes their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.”

Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, dozens of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities have permanently shut their doors. However, the loosening of FDA regulations surrounding the abortion drug mifepristone under the Biden administration has simultaneously triggered a rise in chemical abortion prescriptions and the mailing of abortion pills across state lines. Last year, chemical abortions accounted for over 60% of all abortions performed in the U.S., despite serious risks posed to moms who consume the drugs – including severe bleeding, incomplete abortion, sepsis, and even death.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood has strategically placed new Planned Parenthood facilities and resources near the borders of states that have laws protecting the unborn. In Oregon, a new facility in Malheur County provides abortions for women from Oregon and women seeking abortions from out of state. According to updated 2023 numbers from Oregon Health Authority (OHA), 427 abortions were performed in Malheur County last year, 381 of which were for out-of-state residents. There had been no reported abortions in Malheur County in 2022.
