(Oregon Right to Life) — A recent commercial by the Swedish car company Volvo is receiving strong praise from pro-life advocates for its heartwarming and emotionally evocative portrayal of pregnancy and the value of human life.

“100 years of work, one split-second moment,” the commercial’s description reads. “The culmination of countless hours of development, research, engineering, testing, and data collection, the new fully electric EX90 is designed to be the safest Volvo car ever made.”
The cinematic ad, nearly four minutes in length, begins with a subtle pregnancy announcement that triggers a range of emotions likely to be familiar to new parents: uncertainty, fear, excitement, love, and hope.
As the viewer hears the unborn baby’s father share the news (and his feelings about it) in a phone call with his mother, the commercial flashes to visions of who this new human being will be: a spunky little girl full of affection and stubbornness who grows up to be an adventurous and confident young woman.
The ad then spotlights the capabilities of the new Volvo model with a gut-wrenching twist that makes clear to viewers both the importance of a car’s safety and craftsmanship and the tremendous value of every human life.
The Volvo ad was released in September, but has received renewed notice online following the release of competitor Jaguar’s widely-panned commercial featuring an obscure left-wing cultural aesthetic without any reference to cars.
