(Oregon Right to Life) — In a historic comeback Tuesday night, Donald Trump became President Elect of the United States for the second time, shutting down the radically pro-abortion Harris-Walz ticket and winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
And Trump’s wasn’t the only major Republican victory of the night: Republicans also regained control of the U.S. Senate and appear on track to keep the U.S. House of Representatives, an outcome that would have Republicans at the helm of all three federal branches of government with a clear mandate for change.
Pro-life advocates are celebrating the defeat of vice president Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, whose radical policy positions (including a pledge to codify Roe v. Wade and a total refusal to endorse any limits on abortion) made them the most pro-abortion ticket in U.S. history.

Pro-Life Groups Congratulate Trump On His Victory
After Trump’s 2024 re-election victory was confirmed, National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) released a statement highlighting voters’ rejection of abortion extremism and congratulating Trump and his VP pick J.D. Vance.
“Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and the Democratic Party have taken the most extreme abortion position possible, including support for unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy,” NRLC president Carol Tobias said in a statement. “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz support abortion anytime, anywhere, and under any circumstances. Supported by the abortion industry and its allies, Harris and Walz campaigned with fanatical fervor on abortion — and the voters rejected them.”
“National Right to Life looks forward to working with President-elect Trump, Vice President-elect Vance, and the newly-elected pro-life Congress on policy initiatives to protect the lives of unborn children and provide resources for moms and young parents.”
Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America also pointed out American voters’ clear refusal to endorse Harris’ radical position on abortion, urging Republicans to use their power to create stronger protections for the unborn.
“In the first presidential election since Dobbs, Americans have rejected the Democrats’ no-limits abortion agenda,” SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement. “President Trump’s first-term pro-life accomplishments are the baseline for his second term. In the long term, GOP pro-life resolve must be strengthened and centered on the unalienable right to life for unborn children that exists under the 14th Amendment.”
“In America, where you live should never determine whether you live,” she said. “Across the nation there are still hundreds of thousands of babies to save and moms to serve and we can’t stop fighting for them now.”

Trump’s Record On The Abortion Issue Gives Pro-Life Advocates Strong Reasons To Celebrate His Re-Election
Contrasted with the abortion extremism espoused by the Democrats, Trump emerged early as the candidate far more preferable for pro-life voters and much friendlier toward statewide efforts to protect the unborn, earning the endorsement of major pro-life organizations including NRLC and SBA Pro-Life America
During his first term, Trump made significant moves in support of pro-life priorities.
- Trump appointed the U.S. Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade
- He became the first U.S. president to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C.
- He reinstituted and expanded the Mexico City Policy to prohibit federal dollars from funding global NGOs that provide or promote abortions
- He declared in a 2021 proclamation just prior to leaving office that “every human life is a gift to the world. Whether born or unborn, young or old, healthy or sick, every person is made in the holy image of God.”
Support for Trump in the pro-life community hasn’t come without reservations, however.
The forty-fifth and now forty-seventh president of the United States has disappointed many pro-life advocates for seemingly distancing himself from efforts to enshrine further protections for the unborn in recent months.
- Trump has professed support for keeping the abortion pill legal
- He said he would veto a national abortion ban, stating that the issue of abortion is up to the states to determine following the reversal of Roe v. Wade
- Trump pledged to provide government funding for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), a controversial technique that involves the commodification of human beings and, frequently, the cryopreservation and eventual destruction of lab-created human embryos.
- At the Republican National Convention this year, Trump’s party greenlit a platform with significantly watered-down language on the abortion issue, though even left-wing sources, including the liberal magazine Slate, have observed that the new platform still allows significant freedom for Republicans to pursue pro-life priorities at the federal level.
But while pro-life advocates typically wish Trump would profess a stronger pro-life position, the abortion lobby is openly anxious about the impact Trump may have on their industry once he’s back in the White House.
It Remains To Be Seen How Trump Will Address Pro-Life Priorities This Time Around
At minimum, his landslide victory paves the way for additional victories for the unborn at the state level, uninhibited by a radically pro-abortion presidential administration.
His historic re-election also sends a resounding message to the pro-abortion lobby that the extreme positions espoused by people like Kamala Harris are truly radical and unpopular with the majority of Americans.
Victories In The White House, Senate, And House Aren’t The Only Reasons Pro-Life Advocates Are Celebrating
In the General Election, pro-life voters in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota rejected pro-abortion ballot initiatives that would have enshrined abortion into their states’ constitutions.
Though seven similar initiatives in other states (five of which already had extreme pro-abortion laws) were passed, the three wins set an important precedent and mark the first time since the overturning of Roe that pro-abortion ballot initiatives have failed.
Oregon Right to Life believes in the sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Abortion ends the life of a genetically distinct, growing human being. We oppose abortion at any point of gestation. In rare cases, a mother may have a life threatening condition in which medical procedures intended to treat the condition of the mother may result in the unintended death of her preborn baby. At the same time, ORTL recognizes that modern medical practice has and will continue to increase the ability to save both the life of the mother and the baby.
