District 1 Representative Proudly Stands for Life in State Legislature

Oregon Right to Life

Correction: The original profile of Representative Court Boice contained an error, inaccurately referring to Boice’s current wife, rather than his first wife. The article has been corrected.

In 1972 – three years after Oregon legalized abortion in certain circumstances through the first 150 days of pregnancy – Court Boice and his first wife faced an important decision: whether or not to abort their son.

“Back in those days, you were persuaded that it’s not really a life yet,” says Boice, a Gold Beach native and longtime business owner. “Instead, we decided not to abort the baby, and he is now a tremendous father, a great husband and a businessman who loves his country and contributes very well to society.”

But even if their son turned out to be none of those things, Boice says, turning to abortion would still have been wrong — because no one has the right to decide which innocent human being lives or dies. It’s a belief that the former Curry County Commissioner has taken straight to the state Capitol in his latest role as Oregon State Representative for District 1.

“When that little baby has a heartbeat and somebody tries to tell those I care about that it’s not a human being, I go, ‘My gosh, how can you possibly believe and promote that?’” says Boice. “I know that being pro-life is a solid conviction for both me and Oregon Right to Life, and I’m proud and humbled to play any part in that.”

Court Boice has held the endorsement of Oregon Right to Life PAC since his appointment to office in 2023 and has proven his commitment to this issue since his first day in the Capitol.

“His pro-life advocacy both in and out of the legislature is a testament to his conviction,” says Lois Anderson, ORTL’s Executive Director. “We will look forward to our continued work in 2025 after his reelection on November 5th.”

A major goal for Boice is authoring and/or sponsoring future pro-life legislation, including a law modeled after the “Baby Olivia Act” from other states encouraging the study of prenatal development for school children, says Britt Boice. Another will be to “interrupt” the solid presence of pro-abortion businesses in schools around the state.

“I’m not ashamed or reluctant to put out a bill that highlights how critically important [educating on abortion] is,” Court Boice says. “It’s the defining issue of our time, in my view.”
