(Oregon Right to Life) — A Planned Parenthood affiliate is offering free abortions and vasectomies near the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago this week. Democrats have routinely trumpeted abortion in their party platform and campaign rhetoric.
Planned Parenthood Great Rivers of St. Louis announced Wednesday it was sending a mobile unit to Chicago’s West Loop on August 19–20, where staffers would be providing free chemical abortions and vasectomies. The date and location coincide with the Democratic National Convention, which will be held August 19–22 at the nearby United Center and McCormick Place.
The Planned Parenthood mobile unit does not claim to be officially affiliated with the DNC, but its presence underscores Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ focus on abortion as a key campaign plank in the 2024 presidential election.

“The pop-up care aligns with Vice President Kamala Harris‘ adamant abortion platform,” News Nation observed, adding that Harris “is in favor of legalizing abortion nationwide.”
Fox News similarly pointed out that “Democrats have made the issue of abortion a central theme in their campaigns across the country this election year…”
The Austin-American Statesman credited Planned Parenthood with placing “reproductive rights front and center at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago” in addition to “offering free vasectomies, medication abortions and emergency contraceptives to attendees through its mobile health bus.”
Pro-life advocates have shared feelings of “disgust” in response to the news of the mobile abortion vehicle’s presence near the DNC while also suggesting that the move isn’t surprising given the increasingly radical pro-abortion slant of the modern Democratic party.
“It’s disgusting that Planned Parenthood will be on hand at the Democratic National Convention to do chemical abortions,” Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life, said in a Monday press release. “Planned Parenthood’s priority is abortion—anytime, anywhere, and for any reason—regardless of the lives lost.”
Tobias added that the abortion corporation’s “presence at the Democratic National Convention isn’t surprising,” explaining that the “Democratic Party’s fanatical support of unlimited abortion is a core part of their agenda and killing babies and endangering women’s lives is crucial to the party’s identity.”
Kristen Day, executive director for Democrats for Life of America, said on social media that the move demonstrates “disrespect toward human life and motherhood” and “overlooks the need to provide support and options for a pregnant woman.”
“Instead of funding abortion, we firmly believe in funding alternatives to abortion,” Democrats for Life said in a press release. “This radical act of violence against preborn children and pregnant and parenting persons must be met with radical acts of non-violence in support of those [who want] to choose life for their children and families.”
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser also weighed in, noting that the mobile abortion bus outside the DNC “puts the extremism of the Democrats on full display.”
“The days when the Democrats insisted abortion should be ‘safe, legal and rare’ are history,” Dannenfelser said. “From ‘free’ abortion drugs aboard the Planned Parenthood bus, to a draft party platform that uses the word abortion an unprecedented 13 times, today’s Democrats under the Harris-Walz ticket are officially the Shout Your Abortion Party.”
Dannenfelser pointed out that Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have failed to “name a single limit on abortion they support – not in the seventh, eighth or ninth month of pregnancy when unborn babies clearly feel pain, and not even when a child is born alive following an abortion attempt.”

“The contrast to President Trump, JD Vance and the GOP, who support the right of the people to set limits on abortion and provide real options for mothers in need, could not possibly be clearer,” Dannenfelser said.
The developments come as pro-life advocates have expressed disappointment with the Republican Party’s new party platform, which features considerably weakened language concerning abortion. However, pro-life leaders note that the platform’s 14th Amendment language still leaves room for meaningful pro-life legislation at the federal level and that a re-elected Donald Trump would be far more sympathetic to the pro-life cause than Kamala Harris.
