Over the years, Oregon Right to Life has welcomed pro-life elected officials at our annual Roe v. Wade event. In our continued commemoration of our 50th year, here are three of the many who have addressed the crowd across the decades
Kevin Mannix first joined the Oregon Legislature as a pro-life Democrat. Mannix was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives five times, beginning in 1988. In 1997, he became a Republican and was appointed to the Oregon State Senate. He was elected back into the Oregon House in November 1998 and served through 2000. Congressman Denny Smith was first elected to the Second Congressional district in 1980. After the census that year, the fifth district was established and Smith was elected and served this district until he was defeated in 1990. Smith was a co-sponsor of multiple pro-life bills in Congress. Rodger Wehage was one of many pro-life legislators who served from districts in eastern Multnomah County. Wehage served for only one term but left a record of kindness and outspoken advocacy for the unborn.
