Wednesday, July 10, the Portland City Council almost unanimously (one member, Amanda Fritz, was on vacation) passed a resolution opposing any and all restrictions on abortion access.
“Abortion is legal until the moment of birth here in Oregon. This resolution is completely unnecessary, a waste of the city’s resources,” says Oregon Right to Life Executive Director Lois Anderson. “Oregon has zero restrictions on abortion and, in fact, abortion rights have been built into our statutes.”
The resolution was championed by Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, a former board member for NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon.
“Portland’s citizens have many pressing needs for their city council to address,” continued Anderson. “A charade on behalf of their special interests is not one of those needs.”
