The Light of Life

Oregon Right to Life

gayle atteberry ortl directorI get excited when a new scientific discovery both proves the Word of God to be true and gives greater understanding to its meaning. Such was the case in a recent remarkable discovery.

Researchers at Northwestern University near Chicago were able to document that each individual human life starts with a spark of light. At the moment when the sperm meets the egg, a fiery explosion of light can be seen coming from the egg, and an individual life has begun. It is breathtaking. We can now SEE life begin! This amazing discovery was documented on a video which can be viewed at: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/04/26/bright-flash-of-light-marks-incredible-moment-life-begins-when-s/

The researchers explain that “the bright flash occurs because when sperm enters an egg it triggers calcium to increase, which releases zinc from the egg. As the zinc shoots out, it causes a spark.”

However, calcium and zinc do not make life. The Bible tells us that it is God who gives life, and that from Him comes all life. His Word also tells us that God is Light and that He is the Father of Light. His first recorded words in Genesis are “Let there be light.” This amazing discovery triple amplifies to me that it is God who is the source of each life and that man has no business taking it away.

Unfortunately, many in the scientific community will use this astonishing discovery to do just that. Instead of witnessing a miraculous event in wonder, researchers immediately began figuring out how they could control and manipulate “nature.” It seems that the eggs being fertilized give off different sizes of lights, which show the quality of the egg that is being fertilized. This interests researchers because it could help fertility doctors pick the “best” fertilized eggs to transfer during in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

“It was remarkable.” said Professor Teresa Woodruff, one of the study’s two senior authors. “This means if you can look at the zinc spark at the time of fertilization, you will know immediately which eggs are the good ones to transfer in in-vitro fertilization. It’s a way of sorting egg quality in a way we’ve never been able to assess before.”

“Quality control” of humans … sound familiar? Eugenics. Kill the less than perfect fertilized eggs. Then, when you have created more fertilized eggs than you need for in-vitro, you can kill the rest for failed embryonic stem cell research.

Let’s not imitate those who would use this wonderful discovery to harm life, but instead let it increase our knowledge, awe, and respect for the miracle of LIFE
