Pro-Life School Board Candidates Step Forward to Advocate

A few years ago, Oregon Right to Life discovered that Planned Parenthood staff were teaching in some classes in the Salem-Keizer School District. Then in 2017, a Planned Parenthood board member ran for a position on the school district board. Clearly, the abortion industry is targeting local schools, and not just in Salem-Keizer. Knowing this, ORTL PAC supported candidates for school board positions across the state in 2017, including two who became new members of the Salem-Keizer School Board.

These victories are important, but the work is not done as long as the abortion industry is seeking to gain positions of influence over their target market — Oregon’s children.

The good news is that many excellent candidates are stepping forward this year. They want to serve and protect kids, not ensure that Planned Parenthood’s interests are met. To make sure you have our full list of endorsed candidates statewide before you receive your ballot, sign up for our regular emails at www.ortl.org.

These are ORTL PAC’s endorsed candidates for the Salem-Keizer School Board:

Marty Heyen (Zone 2) was first elected in 2015 and has been faithfully serving the second largest school district in the state. Marty is a mother of two with an extensive background in information technology in both the public and private sectors.

Satya Chandragiri (Zone 4) is running for an open position on the board with a passion to serve the public in elected office. He brings to the table a unique perspective after many years of experience as a psychiatrist, with a particular focus on preventing suicide. Dr. Satya is the father of two children who graduated from local schools.

Danielle Bethell (Zone 6) is the executive director of the Keizer Chamber of Commerce and an active member of her community, including working with vulnerable students. She has three children in local schools and graduated from the district herself. Danielle is running against a long-time incumbent because she believes her community needs a new leader with a fresh perspective.

  1. My wife and I live in Europe but still vote in Oregon. We got our ballots in the mail today. Who is pro/life in the school district,Jeff Sosne or Andrew Scott? Robert Schultze or Eilidh Lowery? Michelle DuPass, Shanice Clarke, or Carlos Richard? Deb Mayer,Wes Soderback or Amy K.? Kristin Cornuelle or Shira Newman? Who else? I went to ORTL but don´t see things spelled out in black and white. Could you just cut to the chase and tell me who are the people who are pro-life listed above?
I am a friend of Bill Diss, the teacher who has been persecuted for standing up to Planned Parenthood.
    Thanks

    1. Our PAC director should have emailed you, James. Let us know if you haven’t received an email yet. (We will be posting a virtual voter guide on May 1 too.)
