March 10 was the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers. Yet, not one national abortion website showcased the day. One explanation may be the current number of abortionists who are being charged with all kinds of crimes. Following are examples of recent cases: Bertha Bugarin, owner of an abortion chain in Los Angeles targeting Hispanics, was charged with practicing medicine and dispensing medication without licenses. Her sister, Rachel Bugarin was also charged with aiding or abetting the practice of medicine without certification. Malachy DeHenre received 20 years for murdering his wife ten years ago. DeHenre has already lost his medical license in Alabama, New York and Mississippi for botched abortions, rape and the death of a patient. Alberto Hodari, a late-term abortionist, was caught on videotape in November speaking to Medical Students for Choice at Wayne State University in Michigan, despite having been previously accused of killing two patients. Hodari bragged about lying to patients and families and not washing his hands between abortions. A local pro-life group and officials have found numerous patient records, potential illegally-disposed of medical wastes, and the bodies of 10 babies in Hodari’s abortion center’s dumpster. George Kabacy, formerly of Planned Parenthood, pleaded guilty in Washington State in November for engaging in and advertising child pornography. Kabacy was accused, but never convicted, of killing a patient. Deborah Lyn Levich, after being charged with letting non-physicians commit abortions, underestimating fetal gestational age, falsifying records, committing illegal abortions and failing to treat a patient in dire straits, allowed her Alabama medical license to expire. She is still licensed in Georgia. Rapin Osathanondh voluntarily surrendered his Massachusetts medical license in February after allegedly killing 22-year-old Laura Smith in September with an anesthesia overdose. In March, Smith’s mother sued Osathanondh for “punitive damages for gross negligence.” Planned Parenthood facilities have been involved in a number of abortion-related lawsuits in recent years. Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties was sued for malpractice and wrongful death for the death of 21-year-old Edrica Goode, who died of an infection on Valentine’s Day 2007. California teenager Holly Patterson died after a chemical abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility in 2003. James Pendergraft had his Florida medical license suspended for one year and was fined $10,000 for committing an illegal late-term abortion that resulted in a brain-damaged baby. He was imprisoned for extortion in 2001 and, in 2005, turned away paramedics responding to a call by a mother inside one of his five clinics whose baby was aborted alive and left to die. Meryl Severson, a Planned Parenthood abortionist in Lincoln, Nebraska, was sued for a “catastrophic perforation” of the uterus of a woman who had to have an emergency hysterectomy following the doctor’s botched abortion. Laurence Reich was charged in California in February for practicing medicine after having his license revoked in 2005 for molesting patients. Reich, whose rap sheet dates back to the 1970s, had previously been charged with an incomplete abortion, battery, impersonating a doctor, prescribing medicine without a license and coercing patients not to testify. Finally, following a CNN expose, his license was revoked in 2006. Two weeks ago, Reich was arrested in Los Angeles for practicing medicine without a license – doing abortions, of course. Hamid Hussain Sheikh was indicted in November in Kentucky for defrauding Medicaid. Sheldon Turkish has been charged for committing an abortion without informed consent, including lying, declaring that the patient was not carrying human life. The case is now making its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. |
